![]() Colonel Sir Hugh Chance CBE (deceased) *Signature Value : £80 | Born on the last day of 1896, he joined the Worcestershire Regiment in 1915 War before transferring to the Royal Flying Corps in April 1916. After training as a pilot and serving in the UK, he was sent to France with No.27 Sqn flying the Martinsyde G.100 Elephant as a bomber aircraft. On 17th September his aircraft was hit on a raid over Valenciennes and with engine failure he was forced to crash land. He was taken into captivity until the end of hostilities. Post-war he became a director of Chance Brothers until retiring in 1964. He died in 1981. |
