Bell-Irving, of the Gordon Highlanders Special Reserve and Royal flying Corps, attacked a hostile balloon at 1,000 feet under heavy fire and brought it down in flames. On a previous occasion he brought down a hostile machine. For the gallantry and skill displayed by him he was awarded the M.C.
