Rodney Charman
Rodney Charman was born in 1944 near Lymington, Hants, and has remained in that area ever since, together with his wife and two children. From 1961 he was painting seriously but in his spare time, whilst having various occupations, culminating in a job as Assistant Publicity Manager with a large engineering firm. Living as he does near the sea, and having a naval officer for his father, it is hardly surprising that he has developed as a marine painter. This he has done with such success that in 1979 he was able to become a full time professional artist. Rodney Charman has a deep interest in old sailing ships and is an avid collector of books on the subject. This is reflected in his paintings, where graceful galleons plough majestically through the seas, but he is also equally skilled at depicting more modern harbour and quayside scenes, where an acute eye for detail is a hallmark of his work. Rodney Charman has exhibited frequently at the Royal Society of Marine Artists Exhibitions at the Guildhall, London, and his work is to be found around the world, including in collections in America, Germany, Canada, Malta and Eire.
