Mark Churms

Mark was born in Wales in 1967. He gained his degree in Architectural Studies at Oxford Polytechnic in 1989, but soon his interest in drawing buildings was surpassed by his love of painting horses and in 1991 he began work as a freelance artist. His first commissions were for sporting subjects, Polo, Racing and Hunting. However his consuming passion for military history, particularly of the Napoleonic era, quickly became his dominant theme, with the invaluable counsel of French military experts (accuracy in uniform and terrain of the various battles takes a great deal of time and consultation with many experts across Europe). Mark Churms joined Cranston Fine Arts in 1991 and for a period of 8 years, was commissioned for several series and special commissions. His series of the Zulu War, and of the Battle of Waterloo were the highlights during this period. Mark Churms' deep understanding and detailed knowledge of the period made Mark at that time one of the most prolific and successfull artists for Cranston Fine Arts. Cranston Fine Arts are proud with their series of superb art prints and original paintings painted by Mark Churms in this period. We now offer Mark Churms art prints in special 2 and 4 print packs with great discounts as well as a number of selected original paintings at upto half price.

The 13th Light Dragoons cross a small river as part of Wellingtons armies advance on Vittoria in June 1813 during the Peninsula Campaign.

Advance on Vittoria by Chris Collingwood (GL)

With the Highland charge across the wide expanse of Culloden Moor easily repelled by the government army and the enemy advancing to the right. The Pretender, Prince Charles, hangs his head in concession as the realisation dawns on the Jacobite troops that defeat has been thrust upon them by their own command.

Culloden, End of the 45 by Mike Shaw. (P)
Half Price! - £4000.00
The six-pounder guns of Captain C.D. Sillerys Company, 7th Battalion Royal Artillery were in the centre of the British line, firing round shot and case shot into the advancing columns of French infantry.

The Battle of Talavera, 27th-28th July 1809 by David Rowlands (GS)
Half Price! - £250.00
Mistaking the withdrawal of wounded troops from the plateau of Mount St John for a general retreat , Marshal Ney ordered 5000 heavy and light cavalry to charge the allied position. Far from retreating, Wellington was in fact reinforcing his beleaguered front line. Wave after wave of French cavalry repeatedly threw themselves at the allied squares for over an hour but failed to make an impact. Here we see the 30th Regt - now the Queens Lancashire Regt - formed in square repelling The Dutch (Red) Lancers of the Imperial Guard.

Charge of the Dutch Lancers against the British Squares at Waterloo by Brian Palmer. (GS)

Napoleon at Boulogne by Maurice Orange. (Y)

D squadron 22 SAS, made their way to the Argentinian landing strip where they proceeded to destroy 11 enemy aircraft with demolition charges, 66mm rockets and small arms. The destruction of these enemy aircraft, among them Paccaras, most certainly saved many lives among the Task Force and proved a valuable morale booster at the same time.

Raid on Pebble Island, Falkland Islands, 1982 by David Pentland. (GL)
Half Price! - £300.00
27th February 1991: After crossing the breach into Iraq, the logisticians carrying combat supplies drove for hour after hour to keep up with the battle groups, following tracks in the sand. The relentless speed of the advance meant there was little time for sleep. This painting shows 14-tonne Bedford trucks carrying ammunition (with an extra pallet of ammunition on the top); TTF bulk fuel tankers of 9 Squadron RCT; and DROPS vehicles carrying Rocket Pod Containers for the MLRS. Flags were flown for extra identification purposes. WO1 (RSM) Ian McLachlan and Lt Col Philip Chaganis RCT stand beside an Iraqi trench system. They wear temperate camouflage pattern NBC suits, and helmets with desert pattern camouflage cover; 1958 pattern webbing and ammunition pouches, with respirator pouch at the right hip. The RSM cradles his SLR while the CO has a Sub-Machine Gun (SMG). A regimental pennant flies from the radio mast on the side of the FFR Land Rover. The motorcyclist also wears an NBC suit, with an SMG slung round his neck. 10 Regiment was based at Bielefeld, Germany, and consisted of 9, 17 and 36 Sqns RCT. The TTF bulk fuel tankers were their only right-hand drive vehicles. The red desert rat of 7th Armoured Brigade was painted (within the black chevron) on the doors of vehicles. The black sphinx was painted on the front of the lorries of 17 Squadron RCT. 10 Regiment did not have its full complement of trailers for their DROPS vehicles. The under-slung loads carried by Chinook helicopters were mainly engine assemblies for Challenger tanks.
