Falklands Conflict. The argentine
Military Forces invaded the Falkland islands on the 2nd April 1982. The
Argentine Operation codenamed Azul (Blue) started with 92 Special Forces
of the Argentine Amphibious Commando Group deployed from the Destroyer
Santisma Trinidad. They attacked Government House in Stanley which was defended by 68 Royal Marines. After a gallant defence the Royal
marines surrendered and the Government building was taken.
This triggered the British Response of
putting to sail a naval Task Force commanded by Rear Admiral Sandy
Woodward which consisted of the flagship HMS Hermes commanded by
Captain L Middleton, aircraft carrier HMS invincible commanded by Captain
J. J Black, Landing ships, HMS Fearless (Capt. Larken) and HMS Intrepid
(Captain Dingemans) and Destroyers. HMS Sheffield D80 (Captain
